Mah-J Soobader, Ph.D. in Social Epidemiology from Boston University, is a well-recognized researcher in the field of Income Inequality.  Dr. Soobader started her 12-year research career at the University of Durban-Westville in South Africa, where she supervised inter-disciplinary community-based research teams and played a key role in the development of an inter-disciplinary community-based research curriculum.  This approach was later adapted by Preventive Medicine Residency Program of Carney Hospital, MA, where she developed a skills-based community-orientated primary care curriculum for residents.

During and following her doctoral dissertation, Dr. Soobader has made important contributions to research in Income Inequality as reflected in Dr. Soobader’s first authored publications in leading public health and epidemiology journals, and a commissioned and published paper in Critical Public Health. Her research extends to health disparities, geographic differences in health disparities, and consequences of poverty on health.  Her research approach is applicable to a wide range of health indicators as evidenced by her work on multilevel social inequalities, race differentials, and adult and child health. Dr. Soobader continues to maintain close ties to academia as an author of 11 journal publications and as a reviewer of public health articles.
